I am the 4th and 5th grade Mandarin teacher. I have a master’s degree in teaching Chinese as a second language and more than 10 years of experience. I spent 5 years teaching 2nd grade in a Chinese immersion program in Utah, where I learned how to help young children start learning a new language. After that, I taught middle and high school students for 3 years in North Carolina and learned how to better support older students.
My teaching has also taken me to South Korea and Thailand, where I learned to understand different cultures and school systems.
This is my second year teaching at ICSAtlanta, and I’m excited to continue this journey with my students!
Mr. Hua: Hello! My name is Guoqiang (Hamlet) Hua, and I’m thrilled to support the Mandarin program at ICSAtlanta, a school that holds a special place in my heart—my daughter was among the first elementary graduates since its founding in 2015.
I bring a strong foundation in bilingual education, with fluency in both Mandarin and English and years of experience teaching Sunday School to students from kindergarten through middle school. My background as a finance professional has sharpened my communication, organization, and problem-solving skills—tools I now use to help young learners thrive in the classroom.
I’m passionate about creating a positive and respectful learning environment where every child feels supported, engaged, and excited to explore the Mandarin language and culture. It’s a joy to help students build confidence and curiosity one day at a time.
